How does the process work?
What is COIDA?
The aim of the COIDA Act is to provide for compensation in the case of disablement caused by occupational injuries and diseases, sustained or contracted by employees in the course of their employment, or death resulting from such injuries and diseases. COIDA basically prevents employees covered by the act from suing their employers for damages in terms of common law.
An employer must register for COIDA with the Commissioner within seven days after the day on which he employs his first employee.
When must your register for UIF?
If your are an employer then you must register with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF). Your company must also be registered with the UIF in order to be eligible for the Government Relief Fund. Your employees will also not be able to claim UIF benefits if you are not registered for UIF.
